The New Jersey Municipal Tonnage Grant (MTG) program provides grants to local and county governments to encourage recycling of solid waste. This Grant is available to every municipality in Salem County.
One new requirement of receipt of this Grant is that each Municipal Recycling Coordinator must tour at least one Class A recycling center during calendar year 2019. The Salem County Recycling Coordinators fulfilled this requirement on Wednesday, May 15 when they toured Omni Recycling in Pitman.
The problem of contamination was obvious and everyone agreed that it was an eye-opening experience. The coordinators left with a new understanding and appreciation for the problems facing recycling today. Many of them were already planning new ways to educate the public about these challenging recycling times.
