SCIA’s first 2026 document shredding event was held on March 21, 2026. About 150 Salem County residents participated, and 3.27 tons (6,540 pounds) of paper was collected. In case you are wondering why we offer this service; the shredded paper is recycled by returning to a pulp manufacturer. This avoids recyclable material from being landfilled; and reduces the need to harvest additional trees and other resources and reduces the energy consumption needed for new (virgin material) production.
