Decorative Earth Day pictureApril was a busy and beautiful month at the Salem County Improvement Authority. Happy Earth Day 2025!

Our friend Bill Kerwood was busy visiting local elementary schools.  Bill educates young Salem County students about recycling and litter prevention, while amusing them with magic and illusional tricks.   It’s always a great time when Bill shows up.

On Earth Day, we were visited by Woodstown BSA Troop #238.  These young scouts toured the landfill, inspected our large equipment, and discussed the importance of recycling.  And since it was Earth Day, the scouts sowed butterfly flower (milkweed) seeds in small pots, which they took home, hoping to establish their own back yard Monarch butterfly habitat.

In perfect timing with Earth Day, an inspection of John Clendining’s Eastern Bluebird boxes revealed that several of the boxes are already in use. We appreciate John’s dedication to these beautiful creatures and are excited to have his boxes housed around our perimeter. We look forward to his report/metrics on this year’s nesting season.

And to wrap up April and our Earth Day activities, two new trees were planted on the office complex grounds. Many thanks to our friend, Anthony Proto, of Proto’s Landscaping in Elk Township, for the donation of one of the trees. We’re already looking forward to seeing next year’s spring blooms on the Cornus Florida pink flowering dogwood trees. Until then, we’ll be happy to enjoy the sunny, warm days of spring and summer 2025, right here in beautiful Salem County, NJ.
