Asbestos Notice:
Effective May 1, 2023, the Salem County Improvement Authority will no longer accept asbestos from outside of Salem County.
Effective January 1, 2023, all drivers must fill out the waste origin form correctly and, in its entirety, to be permitted into the landfill.
In addition, SCIA has determined that there is a very low volume of haulers accessing the landfill with solid waste on Saturdays. Therefore, the landfill will no longer be open for haulers on Saturdays effective January 1, 2023.

The Salem County Improvement Authority (SCIA) is dedicated to providing safe, environmentally compliant, and affordable solid waste management, recycling assistance, and education for the Salem County community.
The Landfill is an important public asset and public service operated by SCIA utilizing best management practices and sound business judgment.
SCIA also promotes responsible community recycling and road clean-up efforts. We have a beautiful county and our goal is to keep it that way! We have natural beauty that must be maintained so generations that follow us can appreciate the wonders of Salem County.

Shredding Event – November 18, 2023
Approximately 210 residents delivered 8,220 pounds of sensitive documents on November 18, 2023. Including the March 2023 Shredding event, a total of 17,440 pounds of paper was collected, shredded, and moved to the appropriate recycling facility.
Household Hazardous Waste Event
Approximately 170 County residents delivered 11,440 pounds of Household Hazardous waste items on October 19, 2023.

Used Clothing Drop-Off Shed
Help us keep your donation clean and dry by putting the items in plastic bags.
Items Accepted:
All clothing, shoes, sneakers, belts, purses, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, drapes and stuffed toys. Your donation will not be cut up or shredded.
Please… no rags, fabric scraps, non-stuffed toys or household goods – these items are a hardship and expensive to dispose of.
